Why we killed Ahmed Gulak- Suspect speaks

The Imo State Police Command on Monday said it has arrested one of the suspected killers of Ahmed Gulak, an ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Spokesman of the Imo State Police Command Mike Abattam confirmed the arrest while parading the suspect in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The suspect was identified as Anosike Chimobi, from Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

Abattam said Chimobi had initially escaped during a gun duel with the police after he and members of his gang committed the crime.

Earlier, when he was paraded at a press briefing on Monday, Chimobi said he was not a member of the gang that assassinated the late Gulak.

According to Chimobi, the hoodlums later ran into a team of security operatives who shot repeatedly at the other vehicle conveying them until it somersaulted and caught fire.

Solacebase had reported that Gulak was killed along the Sam Mbakwe Airport road by unidentified gunmen in May 2021.

Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was reportedly shot in his car at Obiangwu, in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, close to the airport.
