Kano Central 2023: Why Bashir Garba Mohammed Lado is needed- Muhammad Yakubu
By Muhammad Yakubu
By 2023, Nigeria will enter yet another democratic dispensation after the expiration of the tenure(s) of serving political office holders.
However, the 2023 is not like other election periods. This time around, the election year will usher in new changes in the polity.
Taking into cognizance of the fact that Nigeria is facing unprecedented trying time where almost every strata of development has negatively affected, the citizens, this time around, are seriously yearning for competent hands in 2023 to fix the ailing county.
When the citizens are saying “competent hands”, they do not mean only president or governor; they mean competent people in all the elective positions.
Kano state is not different. As the second most populous state in Nigeria, Kano is seen the epicenter of the nation’s politics, that is why it requires experienced persons to hold political offices from the state.
We are talking about Kano Central Senatorial District, this is a crucial seat – i can say, it is second to the governorship seat in the state. This position requires a competent person to hold, at least, the one that would not embarrass the prestigious state in the red chamber.
IN spite of the fact that the Kano Central seat had been occupied by a total of six senators, two of whom are former governors, that has not covered the fact that Senator Bashir Garba Mohammed, fondly and popularly known as Bashir Lado, has been the best among them.
It is an apparent fact that Lado, fondly called with his political swag as Ladon Alheri, has been standout in the Kano Central Senatorial District since 1999.
Lado’s constituency projects are not obscure in the Kano Central. The major project he brought to the senatorial district, would be indelible for many decades in the mind of people. It is a flyover, situated along the federal road in the Kano metropolis, which the people of the state fondly named it as “gadar Lado” in Hausa parlance.
It is worthy of note and commendable to the fact that in just one tenure – four years in Senate, Lado had recorded the total of 108 projects in the largest senatorial district in the country.
His performance in the Senate, after he was defeated by former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, account for the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to reward him with appointment as Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), considering his antecedent as a goal getter.
In NCFRMI alone, despite its complexity, he had recorded tremendous success in humanitarian services and management of humanitarian crisis in the country. This is the man that, for his love with Kano, brought housing scheme project to settle Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Kano state, aimed at managing the humanitarian crisis.
This is the ex-lawmaker that after President Buhari was satisfied with his performance as a national commissioner, he also swapped him as a Director General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP and many other appointments that allowed him to contribute immensely to the development of Nigeria as a nation and his political party APC.
Based on the aforementioned, Kano Central really needs Ladon Alheri to return as Senator in order to move the zone forward. This is the zone that if any other than Lado is elected in 2023, that means the people of the zone are not ready for their development.
As a trusted and tested politician, Lado can beat his chest to say he is the best in the Senatorial District since 1999, despite the fact that two former governors had represented the zone in the Senate.
None of the senators, from the 1999 to date, performed, especially in terms of developmental projects, like Lado. None of them could rub shoulder with him in terms of willingness and zeal to serve the people of the Senatorial District.
A gentleman with charisma, Lado is the answer to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Kano Central, and even the state as a whole, as a Messiah who would wipe the tears of the people.
This is a clarion call to the people of the senatorial district to open their eyes to strictly vote for Bashir Lado in order to continue from where he stopped in 2015. That is why we are saying in 2023, Kano Central, it is Lado or nobody.
