Kano antigraft commission recovers N521m -Chairman

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission says it recovered N521 million and received 2,256 complaints in 2020.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, disclosed this to newsmen while reviewing last year’s activities on Wednesday in Kano.

Rimingado said that the commission received 2,256 complaints from individuals, families and corporate bodies within the period under review.

The chairman said the agency clamped down on hoarders of essential commodities where billions of Naira products were confiscated but later sold to the general public at controlled prices after reaching an agreement with the affected traders.

According to him, the target of the commission is to cushion the harsh effects of the economy on citizens, address grievances, sanitise public service and resolve disputes.

These measures, he explained, would help security agencies stem crime and boost security in the society.

“We also clamped down and arraigned diverters of COVID-19 palliatives, recovered and returned to the rightful owners over 400 plots of land of different density across the state.

“We also settled more than 60 cases of sensitive security cases involving farmers and herders mostly on encroachment of cattle routes.

“In this, many people were charged to court and lingering crises were averted; an example of this was in Dambatta, Bagwai and Tudunwada Local Government Areas, among others,” he explained.

Rimigado added that the agency established the Kano Anti-corruption Institute (KANCI) to train the commission’s staff and other civil servants from within and outside the state.

According to him, the commission recently brought succour to residents with the intervention into the alleged hoarding of fuel by some petroleum products marketers in the state.

On personnel capacity building, he said that the commission is currently training its staff with the support of development partners like RoLAC on corruption risk assessment.

Besides, Rimingado revealed that this year, the agency recovered and returned N150 million to its rightful owners in the state.

He renewed the commitment of the anti-graft body in ensuring Kano continues to be listed amongst top states fighting corruption in the country. (NAN)
