Kanam media trains journalists on gender inclusive reporting

A multi-media outfit,  Kamed Kanam media hub on Thursday organised  one day training for young female radio journalists on news reporting through gender lens.

The founder of Kanam media TV, and the organiser of the training, Hadiza Bawas, while speaking at the event held in Kano, said that the purpose of the training is to broaden the knowledge of media professionals, especially female journalists, to see beyond just the reportage of normal news.

“Female journalists should go beyond the reportage of sports, weather to a deeper level of journalism,” She added.

Hadiza advised journalists to be gender inclusive when reporting.

She also encourages female journalists to take the lead in the newsroom.

In a presentation, one of the resource person and Kano office Head of ICT, PRNigeria, Salisu Muhammad Manager, who dwell on multimedia skills, highlights importance of adopting ICT tools to source news and embark on Fact Checking to address menace of fake news.

The participants were taken through taking leadership in the newsroom, approaching investigative reporting in the context of our own lens, development journalism and challenges bedeviling  female journalists on the field.

Highlight of the training was the presentation of certificates to participants conducted by a special guest, a Khadi of Plateau State Sharia Court of Appeal,  Yahaya Muhammad Kanam, and Mallam Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad.
