Kaduna APC Crisis: NWC Committee Visits State, Calls For Calm

The committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to investigate the crisis in its chapter in Kaduna State has visited the state.

APC Deputy National Chairman (South) and former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, arrived in the state on Sunday in company with members of the committee.

The crisis in the Kaduna APC has been on for some time since the suspension of Senator Shehu Sani in 2016, and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi in February by the APC leadership in the state.

A faction of the party had also emerged but its secretariat was demolished by the Kaduna State government which said its action was not politically motivated.

Addressing reporters in the state, Mr Oni called on all parties in the disagreement to maintain utmost decorum and give an opportunity for true reconciliation.

The committee also visited the demolished secretariat of the Kaduna APC new faction, where they assured all the parties involved in the crisis of their commitment to doing a thorough job.

Members of the committee were billed to meet with the faction loyal to senators Suleiman Hunkuyi and Shehu Sani at their secretariat that was demolished by the state government on Tuesday last week.

The meeting was, however, delayed due to the late arrival of the committee members, causing a majority of the aggrieved members to leave the venue having waited for several hours.

Upon the committee members’ arrival at the faction’s secretariat located at number 11b Sambo close in the state capital, Senator Hunkuyi conducted them around the premises of the demolished building.

Addressing reporters after the inspection, Mr Oni explained that they were on a mere fact-finding mission to Kaduna State with a view to identifying the remote and immediate causes of the disagreement.

He added that they were also in the state to unravel the circumstance that led to the demolition of Senator Hunkuyi’s house, which served as a secretariat for the faction.

The committee chairman said the report of their finding would be submitted to the presidential committee led APC chieftain Bola Tinubu, as a working document for its reconciliation process.

On his part, Senator Hunkuyi described the demolition of his building by the state government as unfortunate and regrettable.

He assured the committee of the willingness of his faction to see to the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Kaduna APC.

The lawmaker, however, noted that the chairman of his faction, Mr Dabladi Wada, should be recognised and invited to National Executive Committee meeting of the party if genuine reconciliation must take place.
