JUST IN: JAMB releases cut-off marks, post UTME fee for 2021 admissions

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday adopted minimum cut-off marks sent by tertiary institutions for admission into universities across the country for the 2021/2022 academic session.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced this in Abuja on Tuesday.

Prof. Oloyede said that universities are not allowed to go below 120 and polytechnics and colleges of education, 100 marks for admission.

He announced the cut-off marks as approved, at the policy meeting on administrations to tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Solacebase reports that the policy meeting which was held virtually was presided over by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, represented by the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education Arc. Sonny Echono.

The JAMB registrar speaking at the 2021 policy meeting also revealed that there will be no uniform cut-off marks for the 2021 academic session.

According to Oloyede, it was agreed at the meeting that the total fee for Post – Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination fee should not exceed N2, 000.

Prof. Oloyede warned the institutions not to go beyond the pegged fee, adding that candidates should not procure administrative charges.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was established by an Act of 1978, subsequently amended in 1989 and 1993.

14 per cent pass and 86 per cent failure at the just-concluded 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, divergent views have been expressed by stakeholders as to what led to the poor performance by the candidates.

While some said it was a reflection of the state of education in the country, some blamed a number of factors for the situation.

According to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as reported on May 24th 2021, JAMB registered about 1,223,962 JAMB UTME candidates and about 63,586 JAMB Direct Entry candidates for the 2021 JAMB exam as stated by the then Register Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede.
