Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, on Friday, stated that the Muhammadu Buhari led administration should free all prisoners who have been jailed for stealing.
Falana said this while speaking as a guest lecturer at an event organised to celebrate one year remembrance of late Yinka Odumakin and launching of Yinka Odumakin Foundation, held in Ikeja, Lagos state.
Solacebase reports that Odumakin died on April 15, 2021, of COVID-19 complications in Lagos. He was the national publicity secretary of Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization.

Recalls that the Council of State had on Thursday granted a state pardon to former governors of Taraba State, Rev Jollly Nyame and Joshua Dariye of Plateau who were jailed for corruption.
Mr Nyame, 66, governor of Taraba State from 1999 to 2007, was serving a 12-year jail term at the Kuje prison for misappropriation of funds while he was in office. The Supreme Court upheld his conviction in February 2020.

Mr Dariye, 64, who governed Plateau between 1999 and 2007, was jailed for stealing N2 billion of public funds during his time as Plateau State governor between 1999 and 2007.
The former governor, elected as senator representing Plateau Central in the Senate in 2015, was sentenced in June 2018 but still completed his tenure from jail in June 2019.

Falana insisted that in the 1999 constitution that there is equality for all citizens adding that the state pardon has to be extended to all prisons who are serving jail terms for stealing.
