ASUU urges FG: Stop misinforming the public over lecturers strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the federal government to immediately release the salaries of its members and stop playing politics with the ongoing six-month-old industrial action of the union.
The Kano Zone of the union, in a statement issued and signed by the zonal coordinator, Prof. Mahmud Lawan, after a meeting held on Wednesday at Federal University Dutse, Jigawa state expressed dismay over the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige claims that the government has been paying their salaries.
‘’It is sad that the minister would deliberately misinform the public. It is also embarrassing that similar claims were made by the Minister of State for Education, said the statement.
Solacebase reports that the statement said the misinformation of the two ministers is disheartening and laden with mischief to discredit the noble course of ASUU and its members.

The union in the statement asked the Minister of State for Education to immediately withdraw the statement and if indeed the salaries are being paid, the federal government should investigate the payment of the fund as no ASUU member is receiving any salary in the past three months.
The statement said ASUU demanded the federal government to as a matter of urgency meet its requests that include the provision of revitalization fund, completion of renegotiation exercise and withdrawal of IPPIS and acceptance of University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
