Ahead of 2023 general elections, a staunch loyalist of Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yakasai, who is a former personal physician of leader of Kwankwasiyya movement Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso denounced his membership of the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at a mini ceremony held on Tuesday.
Solacebase reports that declaring the decision to join APC, Yakasai disclosed that his resolution to reunite with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was borne out of commitment to support the emergence of APC governorship candidate Alhaji, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
Yakasai who reassured of his readiness to utilize his political strength to garner support for the APC candidate in 2023, declared that he was moving from NNPP with mass loyalists of Kwankwasiyya back to the ruling APC platform.
According to Yakasai, the APC governorship candidate remained the only credible candidate with capacity and proven competence to manage a complex state like Kano.
The former Kwankwasiyya stalwart said Ganduje has proven the dexterity to deliver good governance and purposeful leadership in the last eight years of Ganduje’s administration, first as Commissioner for Agriculture and deputy Governor.
Yakasai said ” My decision to support Gawuna is not accidental. Gawuna has proved himself beyond reasonable doubt to be dutiful and an achiever. He has done it as local government chairman, as Commissioner the record is clear and as deputy Governor, the road indicated excellent performance.
” He has done well in many areas of human endeavours that any good politician will love to be in his camp, and as well any responsible men and women in Kano will do everything possible to see that he continued from where Baba Ganduje stopped. You can only be inspired to the fact that Gawuna has used every chance to come to him for the benefit of the people in his constituency”. Yakasai noted.
