Ever since the return to democracy in 1999, Kano central senatorial district has recorded a total of six senators and without sounding immodest one out of the six stands tall among his peers not because he has served for a longer period or he had other privileges that others lacked, but for the simple fact that he has proved himself to be unique in terms of human capital and infrastructural development as well as portraying effective and efficient form of representation at the national assembly.
This unique personality is no one but Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed popularly known as Basheer Lado, former Senator Kano central district, former Director General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), former Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), former member 2019 to the Presidential Campaign Council, former Deputy Director (North) Contact and Mobilization under the Presidential Campaign Council and an all time philanthropist with no limit.
As mentioned earlier when Nigeria as a nation returned to democracy in 1999, Kano central had a senator in person of Ibrahim Kura Muhammed who served from 1999 to 2003, then the centre had Rufa’I Sani Hanga who served from 2003 to 2007, then came Muhammed Adamu Bello who also served from 2007 to 2011.
However, in 2011 to 2015, Kano central senatorial district was blessed with Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed and indeed those four good years were years that will never be forgotten by the people of the senatorial district, then came Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso from 2015 to 2019 and to the current serving senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
Kano central district had witnessed its best period of well deserved representation within the period 2011 to 2015 when Senator Basheer Lado was the zone’s senator. It was during that period that the elected senator of the largest senatorial district in Nigeria, recorded over 108 constituency and federal projects achievements.
Most notable is the building of the Kundila Bridge, popularly known as GADAR LADO, it will interest everyone to note that, it was the people that gave the bridge its name. They didn’t wait for anybody or any agency to make the choice of a name for the bridge, they renamed it after their hardworking Senator, Basheer Lado.
Similarly, it was during his active representation at the senate that he was able to facilitate the dualization of the Kano- Katsina expressway which is still an ongoing project in the state. His various human capital development projects initiated in the senatorial district had made his name synonymous with happiness.
Perhaps impressed with the man’s exceptional record as a senator and philanthropist, in Kano state, President Muhammadu Buhari wasted no time in appointing Senator Lado to a very sensitive and vital post of managing the complex refugee crisis in the country. He was appointed federal commissioner of the National Commission. for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons,
As always Senator Lado, didn’t waste any time in making his mark in his new appointment as he was found worthy of handling it.
He was lucky to add to the series of achievements that had been recorded by his predecessor, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, who was appointed a minister.
Senator Lado wasn’t in a hurry to claim credits on others work, but was able within a short period of time set an outstanding record for himself as an able and respected leader that he was and still is, he wrote his name in golden ink at the commission and he will always be remembered as that person that came and delivered his mandate as expected.
Not forgetting that, after President Muhammadu Buhari was satisfied with his appointment as a national commissioner, Senator Lado was appointed as Director General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and many other appointments that allowed him to contribute immensely to the development of Nigeria as a nation and his political party APC.
It is vividly clear that the good people of Kano central Senatorial district may be Oliver Twist, but they are right as the district is in dare need of a messiah like Senator Basheer Garba Lado who will effectively represent them with no discrimination, who has made it clear to all that he is for his people.
These among other reasons were what made the good people of the district wholeheartedly want him to return as a Senator in 2023. They have seen and witnessed his capabilities and abilities, they have felt his impact and they have noticed the gaps in other representatives.
For them, Basheer Lado is the only answer to their issues and they have made it clear that they will ensure that he emerges victorious in the upcoming APC party primaries.
