The Ahmadu Bello University ABU, Zaria, Endowment Foundation has solicited for support from traditional rulers for the smooth conduct of its assignments.
The Chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Bamalli, in Zaria on Thursday.
Ahmed, who led other members of Board of Trustees of the foundation to the emir, said the visit was to seek for the royal father’s support, advice and blessing to be able to discharge their assignments successfully.
He described the first class traditional ruler as a “great pillar” to the university, adding that the institution will continue to remain grateful to Zazzau Emirate Council for all its support.
He noted that the support of traditional rulers in Nigeria was being underestimated, especially by those whom he said “did not know yesterday”.
He warned that neglecting the traditional institution was akin to destroying the future of the country.
He told the Emir that “as members of Board of Trustees of Ahmadu Bello University Endowment Foundation, we all regard ourselves as being representing you (the Emir) on this board”.
He, therefore, used the opportunity to congratulate the Emir on occupying the exalted throne of Zazzau Emirate and prayed to God to guide and grant him good health.
Responding, Ambassador Bamalli said that he was humbled by Yayale’s kind and encouraging words.
Bamalli, who described members of the board as “distinguished Nigerians”, said that the Zazzau Emirate Council would give the team all the needed support to succeed.“I’m very proud to be associated with this great team of distinguished Nigerians.
“I congratulate the vice-chancellor and the university as a whole for carefully selecting these men and women to serve on this all important board,” he said. (NAN)
