Police confirm killing at inauguration of Kano APC executives
Kano Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the death of Hamisu Sani, 20 , from Bukum Village , Bunkure local government area of the state at Rano township Stadium on Saturday during the inauguration of the executive committee of the All Progressives Congress APC in Rano local government area.
Solacebase gathered that a fight broke out among supporters of some politicians at the event.
An online newspaper, Premium Times reported that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had inaugurated the executive committee of the All Progressives Congress during which four persons were left dead and many others injured.
The paper said one of the deceased victims, Hamisu Abdullahi, popularly known as Aga, was a resident of ‘Kofar Gabas’ in Barkum town of Bunkure local government area.
His younger brother, Abba Abdullahi, said that his remains were buried Saturday night, having died from deep cuts he sustained during the clash.
He said the deceased, a butcher, had suspended his business following a phone call inviting him to attend the political event in Rano.
He left behind a wife and a child, the family source added.
The paper said another victim, Dan-Mamadu Kaura, from Garo town in Kabo local government area, was a local government staffer.
Mr Kaura, a Fulani cattle herder who lived at the outskirts of Garo town, was recently recruited as cleaner by Rimin Gado local government.
Residents said the violent confrontation at the stadium was followed by an attack on the Rano General Hospital by armed thugs chasing injured members of the rival group who had been taken to the facility for treatment.
Locals said the situation caused panic among residents and traders around the hospital’s gate.
A hospital source told PREMIUM TIMES that the hospital admitted at least six injured persons and recorded one death, that of a resident of Barkum community (Mr Aga).
A resident of Rano town, Ibrahim Yusuf, said the two other persons killed at the event were not from Rano, but had come from Kano. Mr Yusuf said their corpses were evacuated by the police from the scene after the clash.
However, speaking to Solacebase on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the crisis, noting that one person was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
‘’According to information available to us, March 5th at about 4.30pm, we were informed of a clash at the Rano Township Stadium during a political activity where some people were injured,’’ Kiyawa told Solacebase.
Kiyawa said immediately, with the instruction of the Police Commissioner, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, they swung into action and were able to rushed two of the injured to the hospital.
He told Solacebase that those rushed to the hospital were Hamisu Sani, aged 20 years who was later confirmed dead by the doctor and Muhammad Isiyaku, aged 38 years from Garo village , Kabo local government area.
The police image maker said Muhammad Isiyaku was later moved to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital due to the extent of the injuries sustained.
He noted that although no arrest has been made, the command has Launch investigation into the clash to apprehend culprits in the clash.
