Social Services: Industrialist, philanthropist, UYK promises to do more as University honours him

An industrialist and founder of UYK Nigeria Ltd., Alhaji Usman Yahaya Kansila (UYK) has said that he is investing in youths to ensure their future, fight insecurity, address youth restiveness and criminal activities in Nigeria

Kansila stated this while speaking to newsmen shortly after he was awarded  honourary doctorate degree in Accountancy by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia State on Saturday.

“If youths, that form the bulk of the population of our country are meaningfully engage and sure of their future, they will have less or no time to think of or participate in anti-social, crime, and criminal activities,” he said.

“In the same manner, our dear country will have less insecurity challenges, that is creating loss of many lives, especially the youths and property worth billions of naira,” the philanthropist added.

Usman Kansila said he has been supporting youths through his non-governmental organisation, Yahaya Kansila Foundation for over ten years, through award of scholarships, skills acquisition and empowerment programs, creation of employment opportunities and conducive learning environment in schools among others.

He announced that the foundation would expand its sponsorship of indigent and intelligent students in tertiary institutions , so that students across the country can benefit and improve access to qualitative education.

Reading the citation of the awardee, the University Orator, Prof Ifeoma Irene Ijeh,  said Ahaji Usman Yahaya Kansila is an advocate of social inclusion and has being supporting thousands of families by providing them with access to healthcare, education, clean energy and water.

Prof. Ijeh said the philanthropist has been a strong pillar to people with special need through the provision of social amenities and inclusion in conducive living.

‘’Among the philanthropic deeds of the awardee foundation is the annual  support of over 600 students in secondary schools and tertiary institution for more than a decade. Similarly, his foundation in collaboration with Bayero University Kano is building a private female hostel worth over N450m which is aimed at supporting indigent students with a board of trustee to oversee the project, ‘’the Orator said.

Presenting the certificate and award to Alhaji Usman Yahaya Kansila, the Emir of Gombe and Chancellor of the University, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, congratulated and urged him not to relent in the effort to better the lives of others.

Accompanied by over 100 entourage including serving and former vice chancellors, provost of a college of education, bankers, captains of industries, religious and political leaders, he expressed gratitude to the University for the “unsolicited award.”

Similarly, an Islamic scholar and Kano State Chairman, Council of Ulama, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil expressed happiness to be associated with the construction magnet, who support the vulnerable in regardless of tribe and ethnicity

Others who spoke glowingly about the Kano State-born entrepreneur were, former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama University, Kano, Prof. Mukthar Atiku Kurawa  , Prof. Kabiru Isa Dandago,  Yahaya Isa Bunkure, Engr. Godfrey Esumobi, Prof. Mariat Tanuche, Arch. Muhammad Garba, Hajia Rafat Ogunine, Alhaji Usman Lawal Gumel, and  Hajia Maimuna Yahaya Kansila.
