A university don, Prof Kabiru Isa Dandago has said that Alhaji Usman Yahaya Kansila’s philanthropy is without bounds and worthy of emulation.
Solacebase reports that Usman Yahaya Kansila, an accountant, industrialist and construction magnet is the founder and chief executive officer of UYK Nigeria Ltd, a multi-billion naira indigenous engineering and trading company.
He is also the promoter of the popular, Yahaya Kansila Foundation.
Dandago, an accounting Professor with Bayero University, Kano spoke at a dinner on Friday ahead of conferment of an honorary degree on Usman Kansila by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), near Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The degree will be conferred on the industrialist today, Saturday, during the 10th convocation ceremony of the University which is named after the late premier of defunct Eastern Region.
At the event at the University’s Alunmi secretariat, Prof. Dandago said at the moment, Usman Yahaya Kansila is sponsoring the professional examination of over 120 students of the department, writing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examination
‘’ 36 of the students have passed the Accounting Technicians West Africa (ATSWA) adding that the philanthropy’s dream is that the students should become charted accountants before graduation,’’ said Dandago.
‘’Similarly , Yahaya Kansila Foundation sponsors over 600 students annually both in secondary and tertiary institutions, while more 300 are catered for every year in primary schools.’’
In a remark, Kano State Chairman , Council of Ulama, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil said he was not surprised by the University’s recognition of the contributions of the Kano indigene’s contribution to both the educational and economic development of the country.
According to him, coming from a family widely known for adding value to people in any situation they found themselves, Kansila could not have been otherwise.
Khalil, who said the degree would be the third of such honour on Usman Yahaya Kansila, who he lauded for creating job opportunities for many Nigerians, appealed to him to remain focused on his agenda of lifting the downtrodden in the country.

On his part, Architect Muhammad Garba, said Kansila believes so much in human capital and educational development, sharing of other people’s burden and the unity of the country as a priority in life.
Garba said it is a thing of joy that the awardee’s virtues have been recognized beyond regional boundaries, adding that his family members, friends, well-wishers, and partners would ever remain grateful to the University.
One of the highlights of the occasion was award of Pillar of Excellence on the pre-convocation lecturer, Prof Hafiz Abubakar, by the Students’ Union Government of the University.
Responding, the former Deputy Governor of Kano state, who was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof M. O. Iwe said he was humbled by the gesture and appreciated the union for it.
