Achiever’s Corner: Young, dynamic politician, Ismaeel Ahmed

Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed

Ismaeel Ahmed was born  in 1980 in the ancient city of Kano .

He attended Government Secondary School, Bichi in Kano and GSS Bwari in Abuja for his secondary education. He then proceeded to the University of Abuja where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree.

Ismaeel completed his  Law School program, in  Abuja in 2006 before proceeding to Webster University in St Louis, Missouri, United States, where he received a master’s degree in international relations, communications and diplomacy in 2008.

In recognition of his professional membership, Ismaeel Ahmed is associated with; Nigerian Bar Association, Nigeria Leadership Initiative, Arewa Emerging Leaders Forum, ONE.Gov, Pearl Grant Scholarship Scheme and Youth Political Leaders Association of Nigeria.

He served as Special Advisor Office of The Governor of Kano State in 2014.

In 2011, Ismaeel established his own law firm,  Barclays Chambers, FCT, Abuja.

A principal partner of the law firm that specializes on preliminary investigation before proceeding to the court and Alternative Dispute Resolution where he handled mostly civil briefs of clients in areas of Corporate start-up, winding down of Companies, Land Matters and Real Estate, Constitutional Law and individual Liberty.

He was the Director for Legal Services, Green Forest Group, FCT, Abuja in 2010. Here, he Provided Legal Services that included Contractual Agreements, Negotiations on behalf of the company overseeing the legal departments of the subsidiary companies and served as the Company Secretary.

Ismaeel is the Founder and Chairman of Teach4Nigeria, a voluntary organization where young people with privileged educational background volunteer to impact knowledge to young people through teaching a particular subject for a period of time in  a nearby public school.

Still in alignment of his career, he had Internship with Wilson and Associates Law Firm, East ST. Louis, Illinois in 2008 where he filed briefs and interview clients in family dispute cases to ascertain the veracity of any issue at hand before proceeding to court.

Ismaeel was the Promotional officer in Sodexho Campus Dinning, Webster Groves, Missouri in 2007. Also, he was the Law Officer during his NYSC, in Shuaibi Shehu Chambers Gombe, in 2006.

On the 11th of May, 2013, Ismaeel delivered the famous speech on behalf of young people in the winding down convention of Congress for Progressive Change held in Abuja. He organised and chaired, Congress in Progress.

The conference that discussed the role of young people and party leaders from opposition .

He also organised and chaired The First-Ever National Youth Diversity Conference. The conference brought about youths, women, religious scholars, traditional rulers University Dons to speak about the numerous fault lines of Nigeria.

Ismaeel led the Team GMB Squad of Young People to the first ever Debate in the 2015 Elections on Channels TV.  This Debate was viewed by an estimated 8 million Nigerians Live and on YouTube.

In 2011, Ismaeel Ahmed contested for, and won the primary election to represent Nassarawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, at the House of Representatives under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He was selected as a member of the Renewal Committee for the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2012. A member of Manifesto sub-committee in 2013

Ismaeel witnessed a merger of major opposition parties in Nigeria, including the CPC, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

That merger led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ismaeel Ahmed was a member of the manifesto sub-committee that worked towards the merger. On the heels of the formation of the APC, Ismaeel founded the Youth Wing of the new party, known as the All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF). He occupied the position of Chairman of the APYF from 2013. He also served on the Sub-Committee of the Merger Committee in 2013.

Towards the build up to the general elections in 2015, Ismaeel served as Secretary, Membership Registration Committee for Katsina State, APC; Member, State Congresses Committee Katsina State, APC; and Member, APC Presidential Primaries Convention, all in 2014.

A member of Elections Planning Committee in 2014,  he was a member of Presidential Convention committee in 2014.  In 2015, he served on the following Directorates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council: Directorate of Contact and Mobilization; Directorate of Policy and Strategy; Directorate of Security and Intelligence; and Directorate of Youth Mobilization.  Also a member of Board of Trustees of APC.  Ismaeel is currently the national youth leader of APC.

A Senior Special Adviser to the President on social intervention and he organized the most talked about first ever national progressives youth conference.

Ismaeel Ahmed is happily married with a wife and  children.
