Dr. Shehu Alhaji Musa is the Vice Chancellor, Kano University of Science and Technology, (KUST) Wudil.
He is a Professor of Agricultural Economics of Bayero University, Kano and was born on the 20th March, 1968 at Gwagwarandan village, Albasu Local Government Area, Kano State.
He attended Gwagwarandan Primary School from 1976-1982, Junior Secondary School Faragai 1982-1984 and Science Secondary School Dawakin-Kudu 1984-1987, where he had his primary school leaving certificate and West Africa Examination Council Certificate respectively.
He holds a Bachelor Degree (2:1) in General Agriculture from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) and graduated among best students in 1994;
He had his National Youth Service as Agric. Officer, Agric. Finance. Dept. Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja 1994-1995
Also in 1997 he obtained a Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in Agricultural Economics from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Nigeria. His Doctoral Degree (Ph.D) in Agricultural Economics was obtained in 2003 as a joint collaborative work of ATBU, Bauchi, Nigeria and Purdue University, Indiana, USA.
This was funded under the auspices of BEAN/COWPEA Collaborative Research Support Program (BEAN/COWPEA-CRSP) of the United State Agency for International Development (USAID).
He had several other certificates and laurels that include Certificate of Attendance (Environmental Economics) 1998, Modeling Consumer Demand Using Shazam 2003, Certificate on Econometric Analysis 2006, Certificate of Achievement on Commodity Chain Analysis 2007, Cert. of Participation on Marketing& Mgt on Agribusiness 2008 and Certificate of Achievement on Fundraising Fundamentals 2009.
Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa started his work experience as a Graduate Assistant at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi 1995-1997, Assistant Lecturer ATBU, Bauchi 1997-2000, Lecturer II ATBU, Bauchi 2000-2003 and Lecturer I ATBU, Bauchi 2003-2004

The highly respected scholar has held various university and administrative responsibilities that include, Assistant Examination Officer for School of Agriculture, ATBU, Bauchi- 1998 -2002, Program Examination Officer ATBU, Bauchi – 2001-2002, Program Adviser to Undergraduate Students ATBU, Bauchi – 1997 -2001, Program Industrial Training Coordinator, ATBU, Bauchi – 2002 -2004, Program Adviser Postgraduate Diploma Students, ATBU, Bauchi – 1998 -2004 and Program Adviser to Masters Students ATBU, Bauchi – 2002 -2004
Also, he was Head, Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension BUK – 2005 -2009, Special Adviser, Food Security (2), Kano State Government (part-time) 2011- 2012, Provost, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta – 2012- 2013, Vice Chancellor , KUST, Wudil (First Term) – 2013-2017 and Vice Chancellor, KUST, Wudil (Second Term) – 2018- Date.
The vision of Prof. Musa is to ensure attainment of desired goals in all responsibilities (both public and private) vested on him by using cutting age innovations and technologies (knowledge based driven strategies) as a veritable tool to help developing countries (especially Nigeria) to meet up with their growing quest for food security, educational and economic challenges.
In the same vein his mission is to organize agricultural sector actors along various crops value chain system to usher Nigeria and other developing countries into a more sustainable path for economic prosperity and development most especially in a diversified economic paradigm shift that the current economic situation necessitated.
Prof. Musa’s areas of teaching, research interest, scope and focus included but not limited to Agricultural marketing (especially consumer preferences), Agricultural Finance, Environmental Economics, Socio- Economics and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs); Agricultural Policies, Agricultural Projects management as well national and international consultancies.

Prof. Musa has over 25 years of national and international experiences in agricultural research, teaching, outreach and leadership, consultancy and has an equally long experiences as a farmer, Farm Manager and Farm owner.
Indeed he has acted as Consultant nationally and internationally, this is primarily in the areas of agricultural, educational and environmental sectors. For instance, from 1997 to 2005, he immensely contributed towards the development of nonchemical storage method of cowpeas in Nigeria and other West African countries, thus, he anchored Purdue Improved.
Cowpea Storage (PICSI) and Purdue Improved Crops Storage (PICS II) projects which made socio-economic impact on the lives of over 10 million African- farmers and safeguard the health of over 100 million African cowpea farmers and consumers.
Administratively, he Heads the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Bayero University, Kano, for two (2) consecutive terms, and served as General Manager National Open University Consults and Investment Ltd (NOUNCIL).
He was among the celebrated Provost of Audu Bako College Agriculture (ABCOA), Dambatta. As part of his community service, he also served as Special Advisor to Kano State government on food security. From 2013 through 2017 he served as the Vice Chancellor of Kano University of Science and Technology, (KUST) Wudil in the first instance and from 2018 to date he is serving his second term as the Vice-Chancellor of the same University.
It is in this capacity that his foresight; visionary leadership quality, hard work, determination, transparency, doggedness and team player attributes as well as his managerial skills came in to the limelight of public service. Indeed under his watch the university recorded its fasted rate of academic and administrative development.
He has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed Journals and edited proceedings of professional bodies and presented over 30 and 22 respective papers at National and International colloquia. Eleven (11) technical reports submitted to various agencies, organizations and or institutions were also to his credit. Furthermore he participated in over 15 international workshops and training.
Prof. Shehu Alhaji Musa over the years has acquired vast experiences in guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students to carry out independent research studies, for instance, he successfully graduated over 30 undergraduate students, 2 MBAs, 2 PGDs, 15 M.Sc and 4 Ph.D students.
He also externally examines (through viva voice) 20 Masters of Science and 3 Doctorate degree students in various areas of Agricultural Economics.
Greatly, he contributed in the area of community services especially those dealing with Agriculture and Education. For instance, to his credit is other community productive works numbering over twenty (20), accordingly, he received more than a dozen of honours and awards.
From 1996 through 2016 he became a registered member of many professional bodies, including, NRSA (1996), FAMAN (1998), ASN (2000), AFMA (2005), NSAP (2006), NAAE (2007), IAAE (2015) and AAAE (2016).
