Gunmen suspected to be led by the dreaded Bandits’ leader, Turji, have invaded the Goronyo central market in Sokoto state, killing over 63 people.

The terrorists numbering about a hundred, invaded the market on Sunday evening at about 4:50 pm when unsuspecting villagers were buying and selling in the market and opened fire on them.

The bandits reportedly operated for close to two hours without any resistance from security forces, who could not be informed of the attack as a result of the shutdown of telecoms in the area.

According to DailyStar, a Sokoto based-online publication,  sources from the Local Government, said about forty bodies were counted as at Sunday night.
