The Buhari Support Organisation of the All Progressive Congress has rejected the adoption of consensus in the conduct of the ward congress of the party in Kano on Saturday.
Solacebase reports that the APC is conducting its ward congresses nationwide today.
A strong member of the group and Chairman, House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, at the House of Representatives, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sha’aban stated this in an exclusive interview with Solacebase on Saturday.
It could be recalled that Sha’aban has been having a running battle with Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and the State leadership of APC to the extent that he was denied registration during the party nationwide membership registration of the party.
Later , a faction of the party leadership at Kano Municipal suspended the federal lawmaker and in less than 24 hours another faction of the leadership passed a vote of confidence on Sha’aban Ibrahim Sha’aban.
Sha’aban said the APC Buhari Support Organization under the leadership of Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu, which has been neglected for so long is very ready to take the party to the path of greatness and see to the end of a group of people pocketing the party leadership.
”We have consoled the neglected faction of the APC so as to unite the party and show people that the BSO that form the APC, namely, CPC, ACN and ANPP would not be discourage to abandoned the party in Kano,” Sha’aban said.
We have highly respectable grassroots politicians who have shown interest to contest in the congress and have since bought their forms and willing to contest in the entire wards across the state.
God willing, it is time to change the weak leadership of the Kano APC to something more solid and our party will again restore its lost glory like it used to be.
Solacebase: Does this mean that a parallel congress will be at play today?
Sha’aban: We don’t know anything called a parallel congress, we are obedient to the constitution that established the party. A responsible politician doesn’t necessarily need to tell his followers to put him in power because they know the kind of person he is and what he brings to the table but on the flip side, we know they have already concluded plans to rig the outcome of the congress.
We have gone past the time where one person runs an entire political party as if it were his personal property.
Political parties are formed through the coming together of people with common goals and interests, the interest that revolves around the change agenda of president Buhari and that of the able leadership of the party under Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The change agenda that is committed to providing a level playing ground for all and all other aggrieved factions, especially those that feel marginalized by the present leadership of the party in the state.
Solacebase: But considering the exclusion of your members during the registration exercise, how do you intend to participate in the ward congress with your supporters?
Sha’aban: We are participating under the 7 man committee that was sent to Kano from Abuja to conduct the congress of course. They shouldn’t forget that we are all wise enough to know how things are being done properly.
Solacebase: But the APC in Kano during a stakeholders meeting at the Government House agreed to consensus process?
Sha’aban: Who are the stakeholders? Shouldn’t I be a part of them? I should be among the top 200 stakeholders in Kano state asides the Governor, the deputy Governor, the secretary to the state government, our three senators, among us, the 24 members of the house of representatives, tell me one person that got more electoral votes than me in Kano. Who among them got those votes without any support from the Government? That does not qualify me to be a stakeholder? I wasn’t called and not many people were consulted for that decision.
Solacebase: Can we conveniently say that the Buhari Support Group does not subscribe to the decision to adopt consensus process?
Sha’aban: We are not even aware of anything like that, that is why we mobilized our people to take part in the Congress because we want to reassure people of the strength of president Muhammadu Buhari in Kano and we are ready for that challenge.
We will go out to exercise our franchise whether the electoral officers show up or not but we will gather our evidence and challenge that injustice because we have fulfilled all constitutional requirements to be given the chance to vote. The party headquarters have agreed that we contest and we have bought our forms numbering 4,500 as we speak.
Solacebase: Did you acquire the forms from the party office in Kano?
Sha’aban: We bought our forms here in Kano through the committee that was sent to conduct the Congress. We haven’t done anything contrary to the laid down regulations guiding the conduct of this congress.
The Governor himself bought about 13 thousand forms for his people and then they tried to deprive other interested candidates from buying but we went a step ahead of them by following due process in acquiring the forms and we will contest. We are informing the leadership of the party to note that if it really want to sustain the popularity of this party, a level playing ground must be provided for all.
Solacebase: How many forms have you bought so far?
Sha’aban: Not me personally but many Buhari loyalists have, we can’t tell you the exact number but they are in their thousands.
In Kano Municipal, our people in the entire wards have bought their forms because it’s high time we stop the oppression. They planned of sacking my loyalists in the party despite the amount of votes I have. I am being completely sidelined.
Are they trying to tell us that a Local Government chairman or a certain chairman of a government agency is bigger than a federal law maker? Even their so called commissioners are taking more seriously than myself?
I want to tell people that we believe that whatever happens to man is from God, no man can give and no one can deny.
We will fight for our freedom no matter what and the national party is strongly advised to do the right thing. We have made provision for experienced lawyers that will go round the venues of the congress, no problem if the congress is allowed to hold but we will not accept it they try to lie to us about consensus.
We will first start by collecting the signatures of over 10 thousand people that bought these forms through legal means and file a strong petition today and we will go to court by Monday.
