JUST IN: Sultan declares Thursday Eid-el-Fitr

The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee and the National Moon Sighting Committee say the body did not receive any report from the various moon sighting committee across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal on Tuesday, which was the 29th day of Ramadan.

Solacebase reports that the bodies, therefore, said Wednesday, May, 12 is the 30th day of Ramadan, 1442 AH.

A statement issued on Tuesday night by the Chairman, Sultanate Council Advisory Committee and Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, said the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has accepted the report and accordingly declared Thursday, May, 13th as the first of Shawwal, that is Eid-El- Fitr day.
