Curfew: Emir of Ilorin sends message to Offa, Erin-Ile residents

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs,  Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has appealed to the people of Offa and Erin-Ile, community to sheathe their swords and continue to live together in peace and harmony.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Spokesman to the Emir, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona.

The Emir in the statement said that “Kwara is known nationwide as the gateway between the northern and southern regions, which makes it to be very important to Nigeria’s national unity and cohesion.”

Solacebase reports that peace was disrupted on Thursday when unidentified people laid siege on Offa and Erin Ile communities over boundary issues.

However, the Kwara State Government imposed a curfew which is effective from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily until further notice.

According to the Emir, “I received the news of the renewed feud between Offa and Erin-Ile with disappointment and sadness. It is high time the people of both communities embrace each other as brother and sisters and continue to live in peace and harmony.

“Kwara State is important to national unity, growth and development. I appeal to His Royal Majesty, the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II and His Royal Majesty, the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Abdulganiyu Ibrahim Ajibola Olusookun II, to prevail on their subjects to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.”

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari however commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for taking proactive measures towards ensuring that law and order is maintained among the warring communities.

Emir Sulu-Gambari had earlier held a closed-door meeting with the two monarchs along with Governor Abdulrazaq and the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Jubril, in his palace.
