
Kano State Government has offered a 60-year-old volunteer traffic warden, Umar Haladu Sumaila immediate employment as a way to encourage service to humanity.
The State deputy governor, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna announced this on Saturday while presenting an award to Umar Haladu Sumaila at the second edition of NUJ Kano Correspondent Chapel award/appreciation night held in the state.
Solacebase reports that the awardee, Umar Haladu Sumaila for about twenty years, has been controlling traffic on Court road by Zoo road junction voluntarily so as to ensure that road users enjoy easy access of road.

‘’ I am directing the Managing Director, Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Baffa Baba Dangundi to immediately employ the awardee despite his age but on compassionate ground, so as to encourage voluntary service to humanity, ‘’said the deputy governor.

The deputy governor presented a certificate, plaque and N20,000 donated by the media professionals to the awardee.
Speaking to Solacebase after collecting the award, Umar Haladu Sumaila who was so elated and saluted the deputy governor said he never envisage this moment in his life.
‘’This is a very important day in my life. I am just doing the act to ensure that the road is free from gridlock,” said Umar Sumaila.
