Lockdown: Kano Anti Graft Agency arrests security personnel over alleged extortions

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti –Corruption Commission has arrested over 50 security personnel for alleged extortions of motorists at various checkpoints in the state during the lockdown period.

The Commission Chairman, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado confirmed this in an exclusive interview with Solacebase on Thursday.

Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado said the agency’s surveillance team arrested the personnel while extorting motorists and giving them passage as they are not permitted to be out during the lockdown period.

He said the monies recovered from the security personnel in the various denomination are some of the exhibits from the suspects already detained.

The anti-corruption boss said the commission’s surveillance team mostly monitor various checkpoints due to complaints from Kano residents on the extortion at checkpoints.

He said the arrest of the personnel at checkpoints was made possible with the support from the Police

He said those arrested were caught in the act around Janguza, Gunduwawa and Gezawa areas.

Solacebase reports that those arrested include KAROTA personnel, Police (Constabulary), Vigilante and Peace Corps members.

However, the anti-corruption Czar said the culprits would be released after serious warning and caution as first-time offenders.
