COVID -19: Yobe Govt To Prosecute Traders For Travelling To Kano

Yobe State Government has threatened to arrest and prosecute traders that travelled to Kano yesterday, Thursday.

The Chairman Sub-Committee on Security and Enforcement of the Yobe State COVID 19 Committee, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdusalam, said this on Friday while advising residents to expose those that have violated the government order.

Solacebase reports that Yobe State has ordered complete border closure to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

He said his committee had a meeting with the leadership of the traders and warned them to ensure that their members do not travel to Kano.

Solacebase gathered that there was apprehension in Damaturu and some parts of Yobe State over reports that some traders travelled to Kano as Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of the state eased the lockdown for 18 hours to enable Muslims shop for Ramadan

It was gathered that some of the traders in Yobe state took advantage of the opening of Kano to quickly rush down and restock their goods ; the action of some of the traders attracted a lot of concern and anxiety as Kano has become one of the high burden states of COVID-19.

Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdusalam noted that any of the traders caught to have travelled to Kano will be arrested on return and prosecuted.

He added that the committee is in collaboration with community leaders and the trader groups for them to expose such people

The Committee on COVID 19 on Friday made a public announcement for the people not to associate with anybody that travelled to Kano on Thursday.
