The Director-General National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru Professor Habu S. Galadima on Friday revealed that with the United Nations (UN) projection that Nigeria will be among the 4 most populous countries in the world.
He said there is a need for the country to have a critical and effective population management strategy that is aligned with the nation’s national development program.
The DG made this known in a speech sent to the organizers of a high-level consultative meeting on key issues of family planning and child spacing held in Kano and organized by development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC).
According to him, failure to address the current population growth will be detrimental to any kind of economic development initiatives and efforts to improve the living conditions of the citizen.
He added that NIPSS is committed to the task given to it by President Muhammadu Buhari adding that by the end of the Senior Executive Course 42, practical and usable recommendations and implementation strategies will be the proffer to address population growth and human capital development in Nigeria.
Similarly, in his welcome address representative of dRPC at the event, Malam Ubale Ibrahim Rano stated that the high-level meeting is expected to give room for presentations on 2020 plans and programs for an improve family planning in the state.
According to him, it is expected that participants will brainstorm and discuss the key emerging issues related to the adequacy of family planning and child spacing funding in the state among others.
