Fire Razes Students Hostel In Kano

Kano State Government has expressed worries over a fire that razed Students hostel at Junior Girls Model Secondary School Kanwa in Madobi local government.

The State Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru expressed dismay over the level of damage caused by the fire in the school.

A statement issued by the education ministry public relations officer, Aliyu Yusuf and obtained on Friday by Solacebase said the commissioner directed the physical planning department of the ministry to make a careful assessment of the damage for further necessary action.

It said while going round the burnt hostel with the Commissioner on Thursday, the staff officer of the Madobi Local Education Authority, Malam Nasiru Yusuf said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The statement said that all the facilities in the two wings of the hostel were burnt completely including the roof of the hostel.

‘’out of the 300 students mattresses, only 47 were secured,’’ Malam Nasiru further stated.

‘’The staff officer then conducted the visiting team round the classrooms and laboratories of the school, revealing that it was a Federal government project constructed since 2014 but yet to be taken over by the state government.’’
