Gambia Lauds Nigeria As Shekarau Leads National Assembly Members To Banjul

The Speaker Of the Gambian National Assembly Mariam Jack Denton has commended the Nigerian Government for the role played towards resolving the Gambian political impasse in 2016.

Speaker Mariam Denton stated this on Monday when a delegation of the National Assembly members from Nigeria under the leadership of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau (APC- Kano Central) paid her a courtesy visit in her office, in Banjul.

She said despite the health condition of President Muhammadu Buhari at the time, he rallied African leaders to resolve the impasse in the Gambia.

She explained that Gambia cannot thank Nigeria enough because it impacted positively on the life of Gambians as most Gambian technocrats were educated in Nigeria including herself who graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Île Ife, Osun state.

Responding, the leader of the Nigerian Delegation Senator Ibrahim Shekarau informed the Speaker that they were in Banjul as part of the efforts to develop a homegrown democracy sensitive to African Culture and beliefs.

‘’Through this kind of visit, we will be able to compare notes and streamline our democratic process to African demand,’’ Shekarau said.

The delegation comprises of Senators, National Assembly members and staff of the National Service Commission.
