Bayero University Kano has procured Computers worth N25m for Special Education department, Faculty of Education of the institution to enhance physically challenged person education.
The Computers already installed at the Special Education department library are expected to be put into use from this month.
A lecturer with Special Education department of the institution, Prof. Jibrin Isa Diso, stated this on Sunday on a Freedom Radio news program, X-Ray monitored in Kano by Solacebase.
Jibrin Isa Diso, the first blind Professor in Nigeria said the computers would be installed with software that would enhance the blind education, named,’’ Jaws and open-book’’.
‘’Honestly the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello is really supporting physically Challenged education. In short, we cannot but appreciate most of his efforts in ensuring that we acquire qualitative education,’’ said Prof. Diso.
The university lecturer who was speaking on the sideline of World Braille day celebrated annually on January,4th appealed to government at all levels, philanthropists and non-governmental organizations to support blind education with the acquisition of Braille.
According to him, Braille is a tool for the blind education but a bit expensive due to the foreign exchange rate.
Braille is a tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired and it is traditionally written with embossed paper. Also, Braille users can read computer screens and other electronic supports using refreshable braille displays.
