Kano State Government has arrested 5 vandals who specialized on tampering with street lights in the metropolis in the month of October.
The Director-General, Kano Metropolitan Agency, Abdullahi Ramat on Wednesday In a programme on Freedom Radio, monitored in Kano.
Solacebase reports that the Kano Metropolitan Agency is saddled with the responsibilities of maintaining street lights and beautification of the metropolis.
Abdullahi Ramat, an Engineer, said three of the suspect were caught tapping light after tampering with the wiring while the other two were nabbed stealing diesel from the generator used to power the street lights.
‘’We have device several measures of surveillance to protect the street lights from vandals apart from the security agents as we engage some individuals who are not in uniforms to carry out checks on the activities of vandals in the metropolis, ‘’said Ramat.
He said some of those arrested are already facing trial in court.
The agency boss explained that the body is not much concern with prosecution but for residents to desist from vandalizing the agency equipment.
Engr. Abdullahi Ramat added that initiative introduced at the agency presently is geared towards improving the efficiency of supplying power to the metropolis at a lower cost from the monthly over N200million in maintaining the149 generators powering the street lights in the state.
