UPDATED: Lion Escapes From Its Cage At Kano Zoo

A lion on Saturday escaped from its cage at Kano Zoological garden, in Kano Metropolis creating tension and panic in the area.

Confirming the development to Solacebase, the Managing Director of the Zoo, Alhaji Saidu Gwadabe said efforts are being made to capture it and return it back to its cage.

Alhaji Saidu Gwadabe said though the Lion escaped from its cage, its still within the Zoo premises and a search party has commenced operation to locate it.

‘’The residents should not entertain any fear as those in search of it are professionals that would deploy necessary technics to return it back to the cage. You know there is a gun when shot at such animals, it would sedate it and sleep off and many others, ‘’said Gwadabe.

He said the search party started around 8.00 pm and had to suspend operations by 10.30 pm till 6.00 am on Sunday morning to continue their activities.

Also, Spokesman of Kano Police  Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa told Solacebase that the Lion escaped from the cage around 7.00 pm when Zoological garden personnel were returning the animal back into its cage after an exhibition in Nasarawa state.

He said Policemen are already deployed to the Zoo to ensure that the animal does not escape.
