The former Senior Special Assistant (House of Representatives) to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abdurrahman Kawu-Sumaila, is set to open a can of warm over his political experience in the 2019 election.
Recalled that in the build-up to the 2019 election, Mr. Kawu-Sumaila contested for senate in the Kano South Senatorial District, but lost to Kabiru Gaya in a controversial primary that almost tore the party apart in the zone.
To pacify him Mr Kawu-Sumaila, considering his popularity and the power he wields in the All Progressives Congress, APC and his closeness to President Buhari, the party then gifted him the ticket of House of Representatives in the Sumaila/Takai Constituency without even participating in the primary election, a move that many alleged as a handiwork of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.
Not happy by the decision, Shamsuddeen Dambazau son of former minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau instituted a case at a federal high court in Kano to challenge the victory of Mr. Kawu-Sumaila and won the case even up to Supreme Court.
However, speaking at a launch of a book titled; Not too young to run: A personal experience, authored by Adnan Tudunwada in Kano on Saturday, Mr Kawu-Sumaila said he laughed at the experience of Mr. Tudunwada as contained in the book because it was not as worse as his (Kawu-Sumaila).
He said, “I believe Adnan’s experience is not as worse as mine, but I will share mine to the general public in due course.
Kawu noted that” If you want to criticize politicians, speaking through social media is not enough until you venture into politics and even contest in a position as Adnan did. I, therefore, urged the youth to emulate Adnan.’’
Solacebase recalled that Mr. Tudunwada contested for the House of Assembly under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
After he could not get the ticket in PDP, Mr. Tudunwada then defected to United People’s Congress, UPC where he lost to an APC candidate.
