The founder of Northern Hibiscus Initiative, Hajiya Aisha Falke has said that northern Nigeria can exit the state of abject poverty and underdevelopment when leaders in the region embrace reforms that will create wealth, empower and educate the poor.
Hajiya Aisha Falke, stated this on Saturday at the Northern Youth Summit organized by her group in Kaduna.
She said that the event was conceived to address challenges bedeviling the Northern region.
Aisha said the Northern Hibiscus had taken steps with a 16-year action plan to empower youths with workable skills, especially those who are not privileged to have formal education.
According to her, “in northern Nigeria, we do not have first generation millionaires and billionaires, we have second and third, meaning your fathers and grandfathers are wealthy.”
Also in a remark, wife of Kaduna state governor Aisha El-rufai, raised alarm over increasing incidence of gender-based and domestic violence in the North.
She said, ‘’The Northern youth summit therefore provides a golden opportunity to make a difference by creating awareness on these issues and ways of addressing them.
She expressed hope that the outcome of the summit would lead to the creation of skills acquisition centers, relationship counseling platforms, appropriate collaboration and partnerships with both the public and private sectors
The theme of the summit was ‘Awakening the Arewa Spirit’.
