The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with National Food Security Council has commenced distribution of farming inputs to 246 2018-flood victiims in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto state.
Presenting the items to Sokoto State Government on Wednesday, NEMA Head of Operation, Sokoto zonal office, Mr Kofowola Soleye, said 500 victims were expected to benefit in Goronyo LGA.
Soleye said the present beneficiaries were those screened and enumerated while others would obtain the gesture after the processes.
He explained the efforts was to cushion their hardships and ensure that they return to their respective farms as the 2019 cropping season had begun.
He expressed Federal Government commitment to provided more succor to victims and prayed against recurrence.
Responding, Governor Aminu Tambuwal represented by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sa’idu Umar, commended FG on the gesture and urged the beneficiaries to make judicial use of the items on thier farms.
Umar said the support would surely complement state government efforts that would facilitate farmers to engage on farming toward facilitating food security.
According to him, this week state government commenced the sales of 500 trucks of subsidized fertilizer to farmers across the state for 2019 cropping session.
He cautioned beneficiaries against selling of the items in the open markets which would dwindle the government intention.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Alhaji Muhammadu Idris expressed appreciation over the gesture and promised increased investment into farming activities noting that they were devastated when the incident occurred.
Idris said with the present support continuation farming for their subsistence and commercial purpose us guaranteed.
