Kano State Police command has shed light on a viral story of a gorilla that swallowed N6.8 million at the state government Zoological garden
The money was said to be proceeds made from the just concluded Eid –el-Fitr (Sallah) celebrations, as the Zoo is a major recreation center in the metropolis during festive period visited by many residents.
Solacebase reports that the story broke out from Freedom Radio magazine program, Inda Ranka, filed by BBC pidgin and published by TheCable on Friday morning.
Speaking with Solacebase, the Command Spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the Police received a distress call, that suspected bandits attacked the staff of the zoo in the night and stole N6.8 million.
He noted that the command swiftly dispatched its men to the scene of the incident.
The Police Spokesman noted that ten persons, including officers and security guards on duty had been arrested since the incident occurred.
‘’Investigation is ongoing on the issue to unravel the mystery behind the missing of the money,’’ said Abdullahi.
However, Solacebase correspondent spoke to Managing Director, Kano Zoological Garden, Umar Yusuf Kachakobo who confirmed that money was missing but declined to speak further noting that the Police are already investigating the issue.
Solacebase gathered that among Staff of the Zoological garden arrested include the Director Revenue.
However, this newspaper discovered that the insinuation of Gorilla swallowing the huge sum emanated from the Freedom Radio magazine program Inda Ranka, Presenter, Nasir Zango who said the missing millions of naira may have been swallowed by Gorilla just like the JAMB staff that was alleged to have said N35m was swallowed by a snake.
