Kano State House of Assembly on Monday elected a Speaker and deputy for the 9th Assembly
Abdulazziz Garba Gafasa from Ajingi constituency has been sworn in as the Speaker while Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Cidari from Makoda constituency was also sworn in as deputy Speaker
Abdulazziz Garba Gafasa was first elected Speaker of the Assembly from 2007 to 2011 during the second tenure of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.
The election followed his nomination by the member representing Dala constituency, Malam Lawan Hussain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday during the first plenary session of the 9th Assembly.
The nomination was seconded by the member representing Goguwa Constituency, Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim-Riruwai.
The lawmakers also elected member representing Warawa constituency, Alhaji Labaran-Madari .as the Majority leader, and Alhaji Kabiru Alasan-Dashi, representing Kiru constituency emerged deputy leader of the assembly.
Also, a member representing Gezawa Constituency, Alhaji Ali Danja was elected as the minority leader, with Alhaji Garba Shehu, representing Kibiya Constituency, as the deputy majority leader.
The Assembly similarly elected Alhaji Ayuba Labaran-Durum, representing Kabo constituency as the Chief Whip, while member representing Kura Garin-Malam, Alhaji Hayatu Dorawa-Sallau as the Majority Whip.
