Kano State House of Assembly has commenced move for the creation of four additional emirates in the state.
At plenary on Monday, the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum read a letter brought to the house for consideration by a Lawyer, Ibrahim Salisu and Co , requesting the house to start a move for creating four additional emirates in the state.
The proposed new emirates are Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.
During debate , 13 members supported the move , calling for urgent review of Emirate council law.
Also the Assembly approves the call , directing Committee on Chieftaincy Matters and Local Government Affairs to submit the report tomorrow .
Solacebase gathered that among members that supported the bill are, Sumaila, Kibiya, Kabo, Tarauni, Dawakin Tofa, Karaye, Ajingi , Tudunwada, Nasarawa,Tofa,Rimin Gado, Doguwa and Takai.
Solacebase gathered that the move to create more Emirates out of Kano has mostly been ways the government uses to checkmate the Emir, especially when not in good term. A similar move was made about four decades ago by the late former governor of Kano State, Abubakar Rimi, when he created more emirates in the early 80s to settle scores with the late Emir Ado Bayero. But the emirates did not last long as the succeeding administration of Sabo Bakinzuwo dissolved them in 1983.
Also, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, during his tenure as the state governor toyed with the idea also but later jettison it.
However there has being indication that all is not well with the state governor and the Emir since the 2019 governorship election in which it was alleged that the Emir supported the PDP
