60 Kano Residents Enjoy Free Urology Surgery

Kano state government in collaboration with International Islamic Relief Organisation    have  conducted more than  60 surgery on patients suffering from urinary tract problems freely. 

The surgery involves patients with  urinary tract problems such as cancers, birth defects, urinary Strictures,   Benign Prostatic Enlargements, hypospadias and other urogenital abnormalities of male and female patients were resolved.

A  statement signed and  issued by Chairman  Organizing Committee and  Director General, Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids(KSACA), Dr Usman Bashir said  the exercise was conducted over a week.

The statement said a team of 10 Urologists from IIRO Saudi Arabia and the Kano based Urologists conducted the surgery in four theater suites  at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, adding that the team spent one week conducting the Surgery from 21st to 28th December 2018,and mop up will continue on Monday.

Dr Bashir quoted the state commissioner of Health, Dr Kabir Ibrahim Gatso saying that “The IIRO have also contributed with shared expertise, equipment and consumables worth about N20 million.” 

Dr Getso added that” The state government provided them with accommodation, feeding, transport and other logistics throughout their stay, pointing out that the IIRO and Nigerian doctors shared skills and knowledge. 

The commissioner disclosed that this kind of Urological surgery collaboration is the first of its kind in Nigeria. Stressing that a door is now opened for the both parties to continue with similar partnerships in the nearest future.

Dr Getso revealed that most of the patients operated were discharged while some are at the centre recovering and taking medication, adding that in appreciation of the IIRO support, the state Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje organised a dinner in their honour.

Speaking at the event, Governor Ganduje  represented by his Deputy Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna thanked the team for coming to the state just to contribute their quota in supporting Health care delivery. 

In his response, IIRO team leader, Dr Jamal Al Barry expressed satisfaction with the reception accorded to them since their arrival to the state, assuring him that the relationship built between them would be solidified. 

Also, on his part the IIRO Regional Officer,Sheikh Abdallah bn Salem Al-howairini,said they were very happy with the initiative, adding that that the Relief agency is ready to do more in this regards. 

Some of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Saidu Ibrahim with five years urinary problems and Bilkisu Umar who suffered kidney stones appreciated the initiative.
