Fighting  Scourge Of Drugs Abuse Is A Collaborative Effort – NDLEA

The newly appointed Commander of NDLEA, Kano State command, Dr Ibrahim Abdul on Thursday appealed to residents to continue according to support to the command towards fighting drug abuse in Kano and the nation at large.

Dr Ibrahim made the call while speaking to newsmen,  in Kano as part of the agency end of the year review to highlight its performance.

He said the command will not achieve its desired objectives of ridding youth from indiscriminate drug abuse without solid support from the general public.

“In the year under review National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Kano command has so far achieved considerable success, under various departments.

Under the Prosecution unit, the Commander stressed the command secured 92 convicted Cases and 55 Cases pending while 2 Cases were discharged “.

However, under the Drug Demand Reduction Unit, he said that 157 Drugs users were referred for brief counselling and 43 Regular clients and rehabilitated.

Dr Ibrahim asserts that various harmful drugs and Psychotropic substance approximately 10 Tonnes in weight were successfully intercepted and also 502 suspects, including 497 Males and 5 Females were apprehended.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul said that State government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is doing the needful towards giving NDLEA Kano command logistics supports in curbing the trend and even gone to the extent of appointing special adviser on Drug Abuse, which he said the governor’s gesture is quite commendable and first of its kind in Nigeria
