The ALUMNUS of International Visitors Program IVLP of United States government Bukar Babagana Wakil has organized a training workshop for twenty-four 24 media professionals comprising Journalists, bloggers, social media users and a Musician from around Boko Haram affected Lake Chad Basin area.
The beneficiaries came from southwestern Chad, southeastern Niger and far north of Cameroon republics were trained on Countering Violent Extremism Media and Massaging Strategies.
The one-day workshop for Media stakeholders at Dandal Kura Radio International took place on 27th November in Maiduguri, Borno state, northeast Nigeria.
Babagana Bukar Wakil Ngala head of programs department and an international journalist with Dandal Kura Radio International, Kanem FM UNIMAID Radio 97.7 and ictv24 emphasized measures for deradicalization and improved safety reporting.
The International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) is supported by the U.S. Department to ensure peace, stability, and development from around the world by the Alumni themselves to their community or country at large.
The training comprehensively overviewed more on use of both conventional, social and new media platforms as well musicians to Counter Violence and Non-violence Extremisms, hate speech, fake News, blackmailing, slandering, defamation and various other sort of messages that might appears contrary to media censorships and Editorial Judgements among others.
Trainees were drawn from Borno Radio-Television Corporation (BRTV), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (Peace FM Maiduguri 102.5) Kanem FM UNIMAID Radio 97.7, Radio Lafiya Dole FM 108.6, Radio Amfani of Diffa region of Niger Republic, one millennium Kanuri Musician and several social media users from Chad, and Cameroon republics respectively.
Babagana stressed that the workshops for journalists, social media users and musician, town halls and village square meetings in Boko Haram affected Lake Chad basin area is for mediation, reconstruction, reconciliation, resettlement, reintegration and conflict resolutions at community levels.
He noted that the effort would be continued and sustained.
He appreciated the people and the Government of United States for their support for peacebuilding and security, democracy and good governance within the Lake Chad Basin area (Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria)
On her part Fatime Muhamood Mustapha a social media user from Njamina, Chad appreciated the training and the Convener Babagana urging NGOs, governmental agencies and embassies to support such program for peaceful sustainability of our society.
