President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence on the alleged bribe-taking videos of Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, assuring that action would be taken on the matter in due course.
Buhari’s remark on the trending $5m bribery allegation against Ganduje followed a remark by a Kano student in France, that challenged the federal government to emulate the governor’s drive in the prompt settlement of scholarship and other achievement.
But the president in an unusual manner snapped back, asking the student if he had watched the governor’s videos allegedly receiving bribe in dollars.
“That aside, haven’t you watched the videos of the governor stuffing dollars under his gown?” the president asked rhetorically while demonstrating how the governor was stuffing the bundles of dollars under his flowing gown (Babanriga).
“We already gave the videos to security agencies for vetting, we are expecting the outcome. And we will surely take action on the matter if he is found guilty.”
Some of the presidential aides at the venue especially those from Kano were not happy with Buhari’s response. Among them was a member representing Nassarawa Constituency, Nassir Ahmed and personal assistant to the president on Broadcast Media, Sha’aban Sharada, who pleaded with journalists to expunge the portion where the president made the remark on Ganduje.
The event took place at a town hall meeting the president had in Paris with Nigerian Students studying in various institutions in France, Nigerian community in France, APC members in France, among others.
