Step Aside For Thorough Investigation On $5m Bribery Allegation- Coalition Tells Ganduje


Kano Youth Coalition For Advocacy and Development on Thursday urged Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to step down  pending the investigation of $5m bribery allegation against him.

The Coalition said the demand became imperative as it is the best practice across the world so as to allow objective process, thorough investigation devoid of interference and justice.

The Coalition Chairman Rabiu Shamma while addressing a news conference in Kano on Thursday commended the State House of Assembly for promptly establishing the investigative panel to probe the allegation.

“We urged the state Assembly to ensure justice is served on the collective resource of Kano people,”Shamma said.

Solacebase recalled that an online newspaper, Daily Nigerian had last month published news and videos of the governor allegedly collecting $5m from contractors who mostly makes return of between 10 to 25 percent of any contract sum.

The Publisher of the paper, Jaafar Jaafar was later invited to appear before a committee set up by the State House of Assembly looking at the gravity of the allegation and to give fair hearing to all.

Jaafar Jaafar appeared before the committee on 25th October expressing readiness to swear with the Holy Quran to the authenticity of the videos as there were contentions that the videos were doctored to implicate the governor.

However the governor was invited to appear before the investigative committee tomorrow Friday.

The anti graft group calls on relevant stakeholders to expidite action on the speedy outcome of the investigation for culprit to be brought to book

The Coalition while reiterating its stance on the fight against corruption appealed to all stakeholders to support the fight against the scourge.

It condemned the exploitation of school children as protesters carrying placards in support of the governor during the public hearing conducted by the state house of assembly and called on SUBEB to investigate Head Teaches and their collaborators involved so as to be sanctioned.
