A coalition of youth organizations under the auspices of Nassarawa Concern Youths for APC in Kano has expressed dismay at the attitude of some disgruntled elements that disrupted the peaceful process of last Wednesday’s primary election into the House of Assembly at the local government.
According to a statement issued to news men in Kano on Friday and signed by the chairman and secretary of the coalition, Malam Hamza Mai Samari and Ibrahim Mai Kano Kaura Goje, expressed surprise that despite the destruction at the commencement of the exercise in all the eleven wards of the local government, a result of a primary election which has not been conducted was forwarded to the state government.
The coalition emphasized that available records at their disposal indicate that there was nothing like direct primary election into the House of Assembly under the platform of the APC in Nassarawa Local Government; pointing out that similar evidence at their disposal shows that political thugs suspected to be supporters of the incumbent member of the federal house of representatives brandishing dangerous weapons destructed the election.
However, despite the destruction of the exercise, some selfish government and party officials made a selection and forwarded the name of the incumbent member of the House of Representatives Nasiru Ali Ahmed as the duly elected candidate of the APC, whereas in reality there was no election at all.
Also similar incident occurred on Thursday at the suppose APC State Assembly Primary election during which political thugs destructed the voting process, but authorities nominated the incumbent, Ibrahim Ahmed Lugard as the duly elected candidate.
Describing these as violation of the APC constitution and the decisions of the NWC and NEC of the party at ensuring internal democracy in fielding acceptable candidates in the fourth coming general elections, the coalition blamed the leadership of APC in Kano and some government officials for being selfish at the expense of the party’s victory in the general elections comes 2019.
It is against this background, that the coalition on behalf of the teeming members of the APC It is against this background, that the coalition on behalf of the teeming members of the APC alerts National Leadership of the APC and the president of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to intervene to address the injustice by directing the provision of an enabling environment for a fresh free and fair primary election with a view to fielding a strong and acceptable candidate in the next general elections.
Contrary to that, the coalition warned that the unpleasant outcome of the general election into federal House of Representatives and that of the state assembly in Nassarawa Local Government area of Kano State will no doubt affect the outcome of other elections, as the coalition cannot guarantee the votes of the teeming APC faithfuls in the local government.
The body also prevails on the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to stay action in forwarding the purported result to the National Headquarters of the APC to avoid anything that might cause the failure of the party in 2019.
“While assuring our unflinching support and loyalty to APC, the federal and the state governments, it is worthy to note that democracy is a game of number, hence the need for urgent steps to be taken to ensure democracy prevails.” ”
For now, the coalition is calling on the aggrieved members of our great party in Nassarawa Local Government area of Kano State who were disenfranchised from exercising their civic right during this week’s (Wednesday &Thursday) purported primary elections into the Nassarawa Federal Consituency and the State Assembly to exercise patience, remain law abiding and await further directives.”
