The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it would not allow former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye contest for any position on its platform in 2019.
The party said this while reacting to the news that Joshua Dariye, a senator from Plateau State, reportedly obtained Senate nomination forms for 2019 while in prison.
The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party Yekini Nabena, told newsmen on Tuesday that he had not confirmed if a form was purchased for Dariye.
He said both the Nigerian law and the party constitution prohibited election of persons found guilty of criminal offences.
“I have gone to the list for Plateau State, I did not see his name, but if somebody has managed to collect the form for him, he will be screened out. There is no way he can contest on our platform.
Nabena noted somebody who has been convicted does not have a right to contest on our platform.
The former governor of Plateau state was found guilty of 15 of the 23 criminal charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud and money laundering when he governed Plateau State and has since been jailed 14 years by an Abuja High Court.
He was jailed for misappropriating N1.1billion Plateau state’s fund.
