The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday established a committee towards decentralizing the operations of the Police Force.
National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno stated this at the end of the NEC meeting chaired by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He addressed the media with the Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru and Deputy Governor of Benue State, Benson Abuonu.
Monguno said that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, will head the committee with representatives from the six geopolitical zones.
He also pointed out that Nigeria is currently facing abnormal security challenges.
The security challenges, he said, cannot be completely tackled within a short a time.
He also said that the improvement in the security situations in the country has nothing to do with the forthcoming general elections.
