Islamic Cleric Expresses Support For Exclusive Breastfeeding

An Islamic cleric Mal Muaazu Yusuf has expressed support for women to embark on exclusive breastfeeding to enhance health of the baby .

Mal Muaazu Yusuf who is a religious focal person on polio activities in Gaya local government area of Kano state made the statement on Friday during one of his lectures to women on importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

He said practicing exclusive  breastfeeding will not harm the child hence Islam is not against the action.

He therefore urged caregivers to always ensure they breastfeed their children adequately in other to have healthy children.

Solacebase gathered that Gaya voluntary community mobilizers (VCMs) in Kano state have being embarking on  house to house  sensitization of  women on importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

The awareness program on breastfeeding is part of activities to mark world Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1 to 7 August in more than 120 countries. According to the 26 August data of WBW website, 540 events have been held worldwide by more than 79 countries with 488 organizations and 406,620 participants for the World Breastfeeding Week.
