A heavy down pour in Dambatta local government area of Kano state has claimed a life ,destroying 30 shops and several houses.
The heavy rainfall that started around 4.00pm on Thursday that lasted for close to two hours was said to be unprecedented in over twenty years.
Dambatta local government Chairman Alhaji Idris Haruna Zago who confirmed the incident to Solacebase on Friday said a building collapsed today as a result of the flooding and killed one of the occupants at ungwar Makafi.
“The rainfall affected Bakin Kasuwa, Abattoir and the main town. It came with heavy wind and many houses collapsed with some shops. Honestly the loss of property was unprecedented and the man that died this morning,” said the council boss.
“The local government can only do a little to support the victims as we don’t have fund to do much”
Alhaji Idris Haruna Zago said many of the residents have been rendered homeless as a results of the flooding , thereby requesting for support from the state government and philanthropists to alleviate the suffering of the affected victims.
A Dambatta resident Abubakar Adamu said the disaster was a natural phenomenon as it was never expected.
” Many of the residents lost their livelihood in the flooding which affected many shops. Two of my neighbor’s houses collapsed and they have to seek refuge with their relations”
