The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday cautioned political program producers/presenters to exercise restraint in their program so as not to overheat the polity unnecessarily ahead of the 2019 general elections.
This was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Kano NUJ Council Chairman Comrade Abbas Ibrahim and Secretary Comrade Abba Murtala after a congress meeting held in the state.
The communiqué cautions media operators against publishing fake news and images especially those that emanated from social media platforms.
It urged authority concerns to take adequate measures to check the menace in order not to encourage violence.
“As 2019 general elections is around the corner, the congress advised working journalists to be more professional in discharging their responsibilities and called on politicians to play politics without bitterness”
The congress called on Kano state government to establish an agency to fight drugs abuse as it replicated federal government anti-corruption commissions with Kano state public complain and anti-corruption commission.
It sympathized with victims of fire inferno at Kofar Wambai market and condoled the families of late Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu, Sarkin Fadar Kano, Alh. Sule Gaya and Former Director Administration and General Services of Radio Kano, Alh. Inusa Kachako over their demise.
