The Executive Gov of Zamfara state and Chairman Nigeria Governors’ Forum Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, on Wednesday June 13th, 2018, called on members of the National Assembly to commence the process of removing the nomenclature of Chief Security officers from states Governors. The Gov made the plea today at Gov House Gusau, during a stakeholders meeting on the worsening security situation in the state.
Gov Yari said there is no need giving such titles to Govs since they have no control over the security agents in their respective states.
He said no Gov has the right or power to discipline, recruit or dismiss of any security officer posted to his state no matter the offence or otherwise of the security agents, despite answering the title of Chief security of his state.
Gov Yari who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum expressed dismay over the increasing number of attacks on various communities in the state and the killings of innocent people, describing the act as carlos, barbaric and inhuman.
The Gov who expressed serious concern over the inability of security agencies to tackle the incessant attacks and the killings of innocent people in the state, despite the huge resources invested in the sector from 2010 to date.
He therefore called on the stakeholders comprising traditional rulers, political office holders, senior civil servants, community and religious leaders, to engage their followers and subjects into brain storming and prayers for ways out of the situation.
He regretted that the President and Commander in -Chief of the Armed Forces has given a matching order to security authorities to mobilize their men to Zamfara, with a week deadline to stop the killings in Zamfara state, but no single security agent is mobilize to the state, nine days after the matching order. As a result, over 38 people were killed yesterday in Birnin Magaji loc`al govt area of the state.
Gov Yari who said as leader, he has done what the law requires of him in ensuring the safety of lives and property of his people and is ready to give account of his stewardship anywhere, appealed to the stakeholders to go back to their respective domains to assist the government in the ways forward to tackle the security situation in the state.
