The National Examination Council (NECO) said the English Language examination for Senior School Certificate was delayed yesterday due to hitches in the North West and North East axis of the country.
The Council’s head of information unit, Malam Abdulazeez Sani attributed the delay in the commencement of examination on logistic, saying vehicles conveying materials to Kano, Jigawa in the Northwest and Gombe and Bauchi broke down midway into their journey there by necessitating the shifting of the examination which was slated for 10 am to 2 pm.
Solacebase gathered on Thursday in Kano that the examination was concluded in many centers between 9.30 PM-10.00 PM with most of the candidates using touch light for illumination.
Some of the candidates that spoke to Solacebase in some of the centers around Red Bricks on BUK road, Airport and Hadejia road all in Kano said it was a terrible experience.
“We started the paper at about 7.30 PM and there was no light as we had to make use of touch light because there was no generator, said a student.
Another student said “the situation was cannot be imagine as they had to write with using their phone touch lights and candles.Hence they were battling with writing the script and holding their phones for illumination. While those without phone with touch light had to make use of candles”.
A member of NECO Governing Council, representing North West, Prof. Kamilu Sani Fagge who also confirmed the development to Solacebase on Friday , said it was due to break down of the vehicles for distribution of the papers from Kaduna to Kano assuring that the council would surely address the issue as students would not be shortchanged.
