Police Recover Gombe Assembly Stolen Mace

The Gombe State Police Command says it has recovered the mace of the Gombe State House of Assembly taken away on Thursday by members of the house.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Tairu Shina Olukolu, told newsmen at the premises of the house on Friday, that the police team dispatched to recover the mace found it behind the National Industrial Court complex, Gombe.

Olukolu said they handed over the mace to the Speaker, Alhaji Nasiru Abubakar Nono.

The Commissioner also warned politicians to refrain from criminal acts in the name of politics that will unnecessary heat up the polity.

He, however, said the police are yet to make arrest, adding that investigation is still ongoing.

Solacebase reports that four members from the opposition APC had on Thursday overpowered the Sergeant-at-Arms during plenary, took the mace and fled the assembly, after a failed attempt to impeach the Minority Leader, Ahmed Usman Haruna.

The house has since suspended the four lawmakers, Abdullahi Abubakar Maiwanka, Walid Mohammed, Mohammed A Bello and Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim, all members of the opposition APC.
