Armed policemen and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have taken over premises of the Kano state House of Assembly,.
The heavely armed policeman, Solacebase learnt were deployed to the house since the early hour of Monday to prevent members from gaining access into the assembly complex.
The deployment of the security men might not be unconnected with current move to remove the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata and principal officers by some lawmakers.
Solacebase gathered that part of the offence of the Speaker include not consulting in taking decision, incompetence and an interview granted journalists on the review of the state governor and deputy pension act that will now include the law makers, which they believed is preempting the committee’s report.
Solacebase also learnt that Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata had ordered for suspension of all activities in the house until after Eid-El fitr festivity as 21 out of the 40 members have signed to impeach the Speaker.
Confirming the situation to Solacebase Kano command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed deployment of police to the assembly.
He said, “We deployed our men to the Assembly to ensure that nobody break law and order. We are acting on intelligence report that some people are planning to create chaos today at the Assembly. There is no specific time of withdrawing our men from the Assembly only when we realize that it is safe.
More than 15 van fully loaded with policemen were seen on the premises.
“We need peace in the state and therefore we will not allow anybody to temper with existing peace and harmony being enjoyed by the people in the state.”
